How does sound or vibration deter rodents?
Being close to the bottom of the food chain has made rodents very cautious animals. They have heightened senses and a superb fight or flight system that errs towards flight. Anything they don’t understand or perceive as a threat will cause them to flee, which is the reaction we provoke with our pest control solutions.
Sound and vibration both cause rodents to perceive a threat or something they don’t understand, so their survival instincts kick in and they leave the area. They also don’t like sound or vibration!
Are humane methods of rodent control as effective as traditional pest control?
Yes, they are! Home Shielders’ rodent control solutions don’t harm the environment or pose a risk to children, pets or other animals either. We stock only humane rodent control solutions that don’t hurt animals because we believe every animal has a right to life.
Using the rodent’s fight or flight instinct against them is just as effective as killing them, without the obvious downsides!
Do I need to wire in these rodent control devices?
Most of our solutions use batteries but some will need an AC connection to provide power. A couple is solar powered so are fully self-contained. Each product page will outline the exact requirements for powering the device so you always know what you’re buying.
Will these rodent control devices keep my yard clear of other pests too?
Many rodent control devices will also work on other animals. Ultrasonic repellents work on bats, raccoons, opossums, groundhogs, skunks and armadillos as well as rodents.
Our water blaster options work on cats, dogs, squirrels, birds and other animals and the vibrating solutions can also work on snakes.
Whatever critter is causing a nuisance on your property, we have an eco-friendly, humane solution for you!
Why should I scare away rodents from my property?
Rodents are cute to look at and to watch, but they can be a pest. They carry fleas and disease, they are always hungry and can go to great lengths to find food. Some love to eat the insulation around household wiring, dig through your trash and leave ‘presents’ around that can carry Hantavirus, Salmonellosis and Leptospirosis.
We wish we could live in harmony with our furry friends but it isn’t possible right now. We think our humane rodent deterrents are the next best thing!
What else can I do to keep rodents away from my property?
There are a few practical things you can do to minimize rodent problems. Keep doors, screens and windows in good repair.
Minimize cold and damp areas on your property, don’t leave food lying around on countertops or on the floor, regularly inspect cupboards, cellars, attics, wood stores and any likely hidey holes and keep garbage away from the home and inside a trash can.
All can help minimize rodent problems and our rodent repellents can do the rest!
